Why I Teach Music?

• Music teaches more than notes; it connects to mathematics, languages, history, movement, expression, and enjoyment.

 

• Music has a lot in common with mathematics. Meter, rhythm divisions, dividing, adding, or multiplying the tempo on the metronome, counting half tones within intervals, building the chord from the lower notes to the highest, and counting seven notes on the basic scale all show this connection.

 

• A music score opens a door to another country. Many musical terms are in Italian, German, or French. Learning music from various countries makes a musician, in a sense, “a citizen of many countries.”

 

• Music also reflects human history. Without the Polish uprising, Frédéric Chopin would not have written the Revolutionary Etude, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s last sonatas would not have conveyed the historical tumult in Europe.

 

• Music is also a form of gymnastics. Our hands practice finger aerobics. By practicing exercises, students stretch their fingers, walk, run, jump, or play with an imaginary yo-yo. Students learn to coordinate both hands and use the pedal, as well as coordinate hands and feet.

 

 

• Memorizing music is also a form of mental training that helps the human brain stay active at any age. It also prepares students for expressive playing and emotional communication.

 

• Music teaches expression and emotion. Through appropriate touch and execution, by giving that feeling and emotion, music becomes alive, and every performance is different and cannot be copied. This expressive side gives music its unique voice.

 

 

• Music promotes love and unity and makes us better human beings. This is why it matters in every stage of learning and performance.

 

• As a music instructor, I do not expect all my students to become musicians and be perfect, either.

 

• My motto is: practice wisely so you enjoy spending time at the instrument. Take advantage of any opportunity to perform, showcase your work and talent, and perform at your best!

 

• In this way, the final goal is enjoyment, growth, and sharing the gift of music with others.
