Hungary is a land where music, history, and architecture intertwine in perfect harmony. On this journey, I’ll step into the world of legendary composers at the Franz Liszt Museum and the former home of Béla Bartók, feeling the echoes of their genius in the very rooms where they once played and composed. I’ll wander through the elegance of Liszt's museum and explore the grandeur of Gödöllő Royal Castle, once a cherished residence of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sisi. From gilded halls to timeless melodies, each stop promises a deeper connection to Hungary’s soul—rich, romantic, and resonant.

Liszt Memorial Museum

The Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum is situated very close to Andrassy Avenue, one of Budapest's most beautiful historical boulevards. UNESCO declared the Andrássy Avenue a World Heritage Site in 2002. Walking 10 minutes from the metro along Andrássy Avenue, you will reach the Liszt Museum, located at Vörösmarty 35 street.

Then, you will enter the Liszt Academy of Music. Ask for the Museum, and they will direct you to the 2nd floor of the building.

When climbing the stairs, you will see pictures and learn about Liszt's musical journey through life. I found it very educational. Entrance to the Museum costs 3,500 HUF ($10).

Three large rooms are displaying three grand pianos, two small pianos, two small organ instruments, several Liszt paintings, his working desk, a resting bed, and other Liszt memorabilia.

The Museum placed QR codes next to each instrument, and by clicking on them, you can hear the instrument. For 1000 HUF, the Museum lends headphones, allowing you to listen to the history and descriptions of items in each room. If you do not choose to do so, they will provide you with a one-page tour guide.

For lovers of Liszt music, this is a must-visit to the Museum. The staff were very friendly and they spoke English. Please enjoy the pictures from the Museum. You can visit the Museum's website at https://lisztmuseum.hu/en
